Thrifty Treasures: Footstool Makeover

This is an easy DIY project and with Yard Sale Season in full swing an unfinished wooden footstool is fairly easy to come by.
Like this one I’ve found recently:
after a very quick and light sanding I spray painted it black
and added some rub on letters (found at Hobby Lobby):

Running the Race for Life

Yesterday (Saturday) my husband and I ran in a 5K to support our local Pregnancy Care Center. God has used this center to help thousands of women through the journey of pregnancy and beyond.

I started preparing for this race a little over a month ago…..oh. my. word. My body was screaming “NO!”. But we committed to this so backing out was not an option. I really felt God moving in my heart through this because while I wanted to run to support LIFE, I just hurt, and I’m still nursing, and my thighs rub together…well you get the picture. Anyways……I started this Bible Study online which you can click on the little icon over there on the side and get to it….well one of the first lessons was one that God used to remind my selfish little heart (once again) that its not all about ME!

The Bible Study was about Moses and leading the Israelites AWAY from Egypt and the slavery they were in. The analogy/lesson went on to say that we all have our “Egypts” that hold us back/don’t let us move on etc. (think: self consciences, depression, feelings of not being good at something)…

Okay….so I do my Bible Study in the morning, then that day went out for a run while my Monday afternoon babysitter was over. Well while I’m running I’m thinking “Run from your Egypt Sara! Run to the Promised Land and all that God has in store for your life…Get out of Egypt!”
Well? Do you think I stopped to walk? Not that day! That was the first time I completed the 3 miles in my practice and I was PUMPED! God is SO good. He used my Still moment of Bible Study to help me find a true KNOW Him moment in my life so that I could Play and Live and RUN that race!

Yup…here I am at the finish line. 🙂

I crossed the finish line knowing this race was never about me in the first place. Thank you God.Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Some Favorite Children’s Book Series

We are a family of avid readers! Bring on the books!! When Deanie (my oldest) turned 7 I was having a hard time finding books that were challenging enough yet still age appropriate for a young girl. (I’m just not into Junie B. and Magic Treehouse) She is now 8 and Dancy is 6. We have found some delightful series that the girls and I would like to share:


My girls are actually pictured with the author (Wanda Brunstetter) on this homepage! She lovingly makes herself readily available with lots of booksigning locations.
This series is pure, whimsical, and humorous. My 8 year old reads them with ease and my 6 year old is reading them a bit slower but can still understand the content. They are also great as a read-aloud. We LOVE Rachel Yoder and are thankful that Wanda has persude the call to write literature for our little ones. Thank you Wanda!

This series is for both boys and girls. My oldest received this set as a Christmas gift and proceeded to devour one book after the other! 🙂 They are GOOD mysteries that really do leave the young reader “figuring it out” untill the very end! Thank you Stephen and Susie! *side note* the site that I ordered these books are from (grace and truth books) is a fabulous resource.

Besides being pink and hardcover and looking so cute on the shelf :)….this series continues to be a favorite. These stories are set in the 1840’s and as you follow 8 year old Elsie through her life, lessons that run true are taught. *another side note: I also love Vision Forum as a resource!*

So these have all passed my Motherly “appropriateness” test and have brought much joy to my girls and will forever be a part of our family library!!

Thrify Treasures #1

Ahhh…the joy of finding a good deal, the thrill of the hunt, I’m not sure what it is exactly about garage sales but I LOVE them!!! My children have joined in on the fun too which makes the thrifting so much more enjoyable for me.

Okay, I’ve started collecting pillows that have a needlepoint design on them but I know that’s not what it’s called, so if you know please tell me. 🙂 I found this one for .50 cents.


I cut out the design off of the pillow.

Soaked it in a little detergant and let it hang overnight to dry.

I had fun layering it with some cute fabric….this was done by hand, usually in the evenings after the kiddos were in bed

I’m planning on adding a few buttons that Dancy gave me for mother’s day :). The finished pillow cover was used to cover an existing plain tan pillow I had. I know the pinks don’t go with the reds that don’t match the greens…but I’m loving it!

I also found this totally perfect picnic basket that I spotted immediately! $4.00 people. hellooo?? sold. I’m using it to store my fabric and sewing supplies.

And finally, this little green luggage piece ($2.00). I brainstormed at the sale (since we were the only ones there I didn’t have to “snag” it) about what I could USE this for??

……..our medicine bag! It now Perfectly houses our band-aids, Tylenol, ear drops etc. The kids love it….and litle Hank can’t open it. perfect.
