mudroom decor.

October 27, 2011 August Fields

it has been fun adding personality to the house over these past few months.
here are some updates we’ve made to the mudroom.
these vinyl numbers came from etsy and took mr. daddy about 30 minutes to apply.

its fun to count our way up the stairs.  especially with the little ones.

we also decided to consolidate the kiddos artwork on canvas all into one place.

the mudroom walls.

i’m sure they like seeing their work proudly displayed as the best decor choice for that room 🙂
i can’t wait to add more!

snow days.

January 11, 2011 August Fields

18 cousins. 2 grandmas. 1 great aunt. 2 moms.  that’s a lot of boots, mittens, snow pants and hats!

we shipped them outside as fast as we could bundle them up 🙂

slowly finding more room…..

dubs and his sweet cousin from south carolina.

lunchtime!

we’re planning another sledding date later this month.  so many fun memories.  and what a blessing that all these kiddos are homeschooled!  a middle of the week “grandma day” certainly works as a field trip!

remember the surprise toboggan? we squeezed seven little kiddos and pushed them down the hill…….only dancy fell off the back on her way down 🙂

our family LOVES the snow.  its important to have warm boots, mittens and snow clothes.  it makes all the difference.
for our children i like the hanna andersson snowpants and jackets and kamik cold weather boots. i always buy black so they can be passed down to the boys.

the mudroom. for a large family.

November 12, 2010 August Fields

when we were working on the design of the house one element remained constant:  a large mudroom.
for real too.  we would go through homes that, according to their description, ‘boasted a large mudroom’ or had a ‘very spacious mudroom’ ….blah blah….and they were NOT overly large.
we go places as a family. everywhere. a lot.  that’s 7 bodies, 14 feet, 14 arms.
that means we’re all getting our shoes, coats, hats, purses etc. at the same time in the same
room.  which, whatever, i mean we did that in our old house, i just had to be really organized and patient.  and its all good.  but since we were building a home this was an area that we wanted to do differently than most homes.

the floor is a very forgiving dark gray slate.

the window seat lifts up and currently we have beach towels and beach bags in there from the summer.

we still wanted to incorporate a closet for my tablecloths and more coats with room for guests to hang theirs if necessary. so instead of ALL individual lockers we made a double door closet.

this is what the inside looks like.  this one is mine. 🙂  we have 5 double hooks in each locker.

this is the view from the other end.

i had to add this picture. 🙂  we just came back from a family vacation and i found this little metal “7” in a shop in beaufort, SC.  it’s hanging on our be kind picture above the drinking fountain.

house update: trim, wood floors, tile

February 11, 2010 August Fields

i have lots and lots of pictures to share!!  so many changes are happening at the house.  tile is being installed, wood floors laid, crown moulding put up, and built-ins are getting started.

master bathroom….starting to take shape….
and more recently.  windows trimmed out, carrera tiles starting to go down….
boy’s bathroom.  i am standing in the bunk room looking into the bathroom.
the hallway entrance is to the right.
straight ahead is the tub/shower alcove.  square, glossy, grey tiles.
on the floor:  tiny white rectangle tiles with grey grout.

the nursery.  this will be one of my favorites to finish up 🙂  i’ll be posting more about it later!
oak floors are down.  they will be sanded and finished (painted white!!).
board and batten up.
this room will eventually transition to something else when we are no longer
needing a nursery 🙁
school room.  built ins are almost done!

mud room.  we went with a dark slate with dark grout (my flash is deceiving you).
we are very pleased with the way this has turned out!
side porch.  the door will be varnished so it will have a little pizazz. 🙂
the crown moulding is going up in the family room.  mr.daddy was in charge of this…
and i will say i am very pleased with his selection!

bonus/family room above the garage.  this is the room i think we will spend a lot of time in!
the window is looking out to the back of the house.  the stairs on the right go up to the hallway.

this is a walk thru “fort” that we are doing for the kids…but they don’t know! 🙂
it was dead space so we decided to utilize it as a playhouse.
obviously they see it when we go to the house but
they just think it is for storage.

okay….last picture 🙂  the siding is starting to go up.  we went with hardie cement board.
this is the stock light grey.  since there will be a final color coat painted later
we will be able to tweak it a bit if we want.  i’m thinking just a teeny bit darker….
thanks for looking!
i will say overall the process of designing and building a home is going very well!
i’m pretty sure i would not want to do it again,
but that is just because it is such a long process.
i always hear so many negative stories about relationships or drama that can
happen while building a home.
i would like to be a positive voice and say “we love it!” 🙂
thank. you.
