happy first birthday little dubs..

October 28, 2009 August Fields

precious little boy. i can hardly believe that one year ago today our 5th little blessing was born. how thankful i am. how much i love you. your full little lips, your dimples, your soft blond hair, your smile……and for most of your first year you were so calm and laid back.

now that you are one, you are finding your voice, moving around, and letting your own little personality shine. i love it!
today we are blowing up balloons, decorating the house, and smothering you with kisses (which we always do 🙂 ). your big party is tonite! God has been so good to us, we are so thankful He gave us you!
Happy First Birthday Dubs 🙂

marking the house with scripture

October 9, 2009 August Fields

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:5-9

When we go out to see the house I have been taking sharpie markers with me. We have all been taking turns writing scripture on various parts of the house! 🙂 It has been really important to us, throughout this entire process, to remember that God is the most important, the all giving, the everlasting. Things and people in this world will come and go but HE alone is our desire.

It’s starting to get cold and rainy here. And while I truly do love the change of seasons I am more aware of how much RAIN we get this time of year! …..we are about 2 weeks behind schedule. The builder is not concerned at this point though. The goal is to get the roof on before the snow starts to fly. And please, let’s not talk about snow yet! 🙂 🙂
Also, we are attempting to sell our house by owner. I put a website together to market it, yet have not “announced” per say, or “started” selling it yet…(does that even make sense?) because we are painting the inside of our garage. So hopefully the ‘For Sale by Owner’ sign will go out on Monday and I will begin to be a bit more aggressive in posting the house site on free classified sites.

beginning to frame the house

October 3, 2009 August Fields

this may seem somewhat uneventful for most but this is a way for me to journal the progress of our house 🙂 here the basement is beginning to be framed. the big box on the left is the garage. it will be filled with dirt, and then cemented. the notch at the front of the screen on the garage is the first stall.

here i am standing in the back of the house. the white square to the right is the window in the guest bedroom. this is the basement and the framing is coming right along! 🙂
this is the following day…i am standing facing the opposite way than the picture above. deanie (in the green shirt) is in the guest bedroom. the steel beams and posts were set. exterior of basement walls were finished and the floor joists were started! way in the back to the right where you see wood leaning against the cement wall in the shape of the letter “A” is the playroom.
whew! then yesterday the floor joists were finished and the baseboard laid for the mainlevel and you can see they started framing the garage! we drove up tonite and i forgot my camera but the garage is all framed in…now.

an observation mr. daddy and i have both made is that the size of the house during the different phases of building is so deceiving! sometimes the house seems huge…other times i think “how can this little square be a bedroom?” then the walls go up and you get get a better “feel”…….

as far as ‘selections’ and decisions…right now we have to narrow down our kitchen appliances. we had to have a pretty firm cabinet layout for the kitchen done at this point as well….which we have 🙂
so far we are loving this process, not feeling overwhelmed and just enjoying! 🙂 we would love to be a good example of working together through the house-building process. i’m pretty sure we’ll survive! 🙂 🙂

creation museum

October 1, 2009 August Fields

last weekend we joined up with 3 other families and drove to the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky. which is actually just a few miles west of the Cincinnati airport.
as a group of 4 families we had been meeting together for a family Bible study over a period of probably 6 months. we studied ‘answers in genesis‘ by ken ham. he disputes evolution with the book of genesis and i must say….the study was awesome!
so as a finale to the study we decided to all go to the creation museum! as a side note we are huge jonathan park fans and the museum totally ties in to those adventures! FUN!
here the girls are in an area that is to be similar to what noah’s ark would have been like. the two men in the front of the picture are mannequin characters.

okay…this picture i think is hilarious! intended to be a sweet shot of mr.daddy, dancy and boone in the garden of eden………when i downloaded it though i see the risque mannequins of adam and eve!! ha ha 🙂 🙂 *serious note* it was totally not risque at ALL….they just stand out in this picture and i found it to be so funny!

there were several awesome dinosaur exhibits!! this guy was actually moving and swaying his tail. dinosaurs WERE on the ark people…how cool is that??!!
here dancy and hank look at an exhibit of a paleontologist uncovering dinosaur remains….
the museum also has a special effects theater that the kids loved! there is a planetarium show as well that has seats that you lay back on.
the food was yummy in noah’s cafe and the entire facility was super clean and beautiful! we were sad that we did not have time to explore the grounds outside where there is a petting zoo and gorgeous gardens….:( next time! we WILL be back 🙂
