Our Homeschool Room

May 22, 2009 August Fields

I figured now was as good a time as any to snap some pics of the area where we do a majority of our school. I just finished repainting our basement a beautiful soft yellow….which led to selling a couch….which led to sorting through old supplies….which finally led to a fun place to do school!! The table and chairs came from my grandpa and grandma which I painted and recovered.

This is a picture “in the midst” of the makeover..eek!

TA DA!

The kids LOVE to craft with Perler Beads. So we are keeping a few hung up in the corner to display. I love this craft cause it keeps them busy for awhile! :)…oh and the beads are easy to vacuum up, there is no glue or scissors and I can keep them stored away neatly.

Crayons are kept in this old bowl that I found for $2.00 at a local antique shop. Those big chunky circle crayons we made from melting down all our old bits and pieces! This bowl gets set in the middle of the table with a stack of paper often 🙂

This big ‘ol chalkboard was found (along with 2
others) leaning against a dumpster behind a local bakery! After a light washing and some fun paint detail it has turned out to be quite a gem.
These clipboards hold the kiddos weekly Bible verses. I picked up some cute scrapbooking paper and modge podged it on those babies! Their names were also put on with rub-on decals….

…and finally……..my favorite little set of tins in the world that I found at Ikea a few years ago in the bathroom section. We keep pencils/pens/scissors in the tall one and paperclips, tacs, erasers and other odds and ends in the smaller ones!

You have GOT to check out Melaine’s weekend kitchen paint-over at My Sweet Savannah… I am always so pleased to live vicariously through others that do the over-the-top …..I think this turned out amazing. Thanks for taking the plunge Melaine…it looks great!

Our Boy Nursery Tour

April 26, 2009 August Fields

Daily I am continuing to be inspired by the blogs I follow. I simply love peeking into someone’s kitchen or reading nook to see how the space it used and how it is decorated. I thought it would be fun to start sharing some of our spaces too.

Being number 5, little dubs had to have a nursery built around leftovers… 🙂 But I had fun using what we already had in a different way and adding small embellishments…..like this old window frame I purchased in Shipshewana, Indiana. All I did was wipe it down with a damp cloth! The small canvas paintings were purchased from ebay.

The walls were already a brown Benjamin Moore Color from Pottery Barn…I cannot find the color swatch for the life of me!

The bedding, quilt, chair pillow, curtain and rug are Pottery Barn Kids all purchased on ebay. My in-laws gave us this gliding chair/ottoman when we had our first, and while its not the most deco savvy…I love it! That little hutch was also purchased in Shipshewana.

I have a beautiful scripture on the wall above the nightstand that used to be in the girls’ room.

Finally, I recently added this mobile that I had fun making 🙂 He loves it!!
