Photo Recap of the end of 2017.

January 14, 2018 August Fields

As a way to do a quick ‘catch up’, I am posting several pictures of our happenings during the last months of 2017.  I often hide moments in my heart and head and try to forever imprint them there….but they do fade.  So here is a recap:

A trip to the Children’s Museum.  Reading in the car, holding his lovey or ‘ZooZoo’ (his grey and white zebra lovey).

Thanksgiving tablescape and shelf decor.  We dipped leaves into a small crockpot that now permanently houses beeswax.  Those leaves were scattered down the middle of the table with a wooden cake stand, brass candlesticks and eucalyptus.  White mums, cabbage and kale filled the front urns.

We bought a golf cart, which I promptly name Gloria.  We took Gloria rides everyday until the snow fell. Riding around the property got me outside and further from the house more than ever and allowed me to see the sunset from various perspectives.

Our school routine has changed drastically this year.  I had started pulling back, scaling down and doing less outside activities beginning in the spring of 2017.  So this year we are having a very rich Morning/Bible time all together most days. We read aloud (so far we’ve finished Trumpet of the Swan, Across Five April and are concluding Five Little Peppers). The yellow poster board is a running plot, character, event chart to help us all remember what is happening to who and where during our read alouds. This particular picture is our 5 year old, Abe, reciting the poem My Shadow by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Birthdays.  Our 3 oldest boys have birthdays within a month of each other so we are in birthday mode up until Thanksgiving!  I am completely smitten with balloon arches.  You’ll see them at every party from now on.  You need:  Two different sizes of balloons, clear fishing line and a needle.  Blow the balloons up.  Tie them off.  Thread the fishing line into the “tail” of each balloon!  We set up an assembly line and whip these babies out in under an hour.

The Christmas season includes heading to our local farmer’s market in the Township Center and watching the ‘Tree Lighting’ ceremony. You do see that my son, who turned 13 that day, is now taller than me?!

Family Pictures by the amazing Kelly Braman

We decorated our tree at home.  I watched a few youtube videos on ribbon toppers and went full tilt on the ribbon tree toppers this year!

I also decorated our office for our first Christmas in the new building.  Yes, more ribbon toppers, ribbon and picks.

Holiday Parties at home, and in the city.

On Christmas morning, I go downstairs, make coffee, put 2 quiches in the oven and light the fireplace. My husband and I wait downstairs until all the kids are on the steps together…THEN we take a picture THEN they can come down :).  Tradition.

Jammies this year were from Old Navy (older 3) and Primary (younger 4).

2017 had one big inside building project.  Bookshelves!  These were walls that had built ins on the original building plans in 2009 but we took out for budget reasons.  Well this was the year!  I sketched out what I wanted and here you see the first part being installed.  They turned out beautifully and will post an update. We are avid readers and the consumption of books only continuous to increase as the children grow older.  I love it! Having baskets and shelves of books readily available to young and old is a gift.

Some indoor winter school day happenings. Block towers and play doh. Lots and lots of play doh.

blog facelift and new business

October 31, 2015 August Fields

Happy fall afternoon!!  Yes, yes I know its Halloween but honestly for years around here that’s neither here nor there.

I’m just thrilled that today is SATURDAY!  My husband is home, all the burnt out light bulbs in the house have been changed, and right now he and Hank are at the grocery store picking up some ingredients for Salmon Chowder Soup.  I’ve not made it before but of course chose this soup to bring in a crockpot to our friend’s house tonight.

Please tell me you make ‘first-time-ever’ recipes to share too.  I totally have trusty stand by recipes but it must be the thrill of sharing something new.  I don’t know.

The blog is getting a face lift!  Yay!  I purchased a template from etsy and paid the extra $10 to have it installed.

So soon.  Very soon, you will see some spectacular changes!

Also, here is a sneak peek of what has been unfolding over here.  My entrepreneurial brain seems to NEVER shut off.  So, we decided its high time to organize my sporadic ideas and formalize my continuous brain dumps into something tangible and sellable!  I can not WAIT to share more.

Again, soon.  Like next week soon!!!

Happy Reformation Day and go jump in some leaves!

October 2015.

October 9, 2015 August Fields

I love October.  I really do.  This picture of Jerry (yes, that’s his nickname…) was snapped on the way to church this past Sunday.  Total sleepiness, morning sun, long sleeves and cozy.  Michigan lends itself to foggy mornings, beautiful fall colors on the trees, crisp cool air and I’m just gonna say it.  Donuts and Cider.

We made our way to our local pumpkin patch this year and our rule is:  if you can lift the pumpkin up and get it in the wagon, we can get it.  Our kids are older and stronger and I must say our pumpkin collection by the front door dons a couple very large pumpkins! And a few tiny ones.

I have to add this picture of Jerry Bear.  He’s been sucking his bottom lip and jamming his fists into his mouth (a-la teething).  He often waits right here in the middle of our bed, happy as a clam.  I mean look at his hair?  How could he not feel awesome?

We are enjoying a fall break right now from Classical Conversations and have a couple of fun activities planned.  I so love the freedom homeschooling has given us as a family!  Happy October!

11 and 13.

June 8, 2014 August Fields

we have recently celebrated our two oldest daughters as they turned 11 and 13.

the birthday box.  dancy has been completely on board with our de-cluttering and simplifying from the get go, so eliminating individual gifts and requesting money in cards was the way we went.

everyone dropped their cards or cards w/ money into the birthday box as they came in.  when it was time for gifts she unwrapped the birthday box and opened each card individually.

She ended up with almost enough money for an iPod.  after some seriously hard earned money from work around the house she had enough and has since purchased an iPod with her own money.

chichi blew out her candle for her 🙂

this being her 11th birthday i “swept her away” to chicago for 1 night and 2 days!  Her older sister was “swept away” on her 11th birthday as well.

this is a very special time for just the two of us…  we laugh, talk, share, listen and have FUN!

i was able to snag 2 seats at the girl & the goat!  this is extremely rare and partly due to the fact that it was like -20 degrees outside… brrrrr……  the food. is. fabulous.  hands down amazing.

yes, those are green beans.  salty, savory, eat the whole dish good green beans!

because it was SOOOO cold, we had the city of chicago practically to ourselves.  the aquarium, the stores, the restaurants.

since this was a very special weekend, daddy picked us up from the train station and took us out to dinner where he gave dancy a very special necklace.  a reminder of how much God loves her, how much we love her.

drumroll please…… we have a teenager in the house!! and. i. LOVE. it!!  we celebrated with cousins, aunts and nana at an art institute, ate a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.

these two sisters are best friends.  they’re honest, funny, each unique and very helpful!  I pray that they will continue to be giving, confident, happy, God fearing, and feel loved.

deanie received 13 gifts for her 13th birthday.  some of the 13 gifts were:
1.  crossbody purse
2.  shorts
3.  eyelash curler
4.  bb cream (a tinted moisturizer)
5.  lulu zippy
6.  sunglasses….

for her “cake” we ordered cupcakes from a local cupcakery 🙂  she also has recently had braces put on her teeth …. and her smile is as big as ever.  i love that!!  i have loved all the stages and ages my children have gone through and i thought i might be ‘sad’ that deanie was growing up or getting older but i truly am so excited for her and really love spending time with her. 🙂

this is the oldest picture on my computer that i have of deanie (with my mom) 12 years ago!

Happenings.

June 9, 2013 August Fields

It’s been awhile!! I’ve been posting a lot over on Instagram and would love to have you join me.

Chichi is almost 10 months old.  He is such a happy, cheerful baby. He has 3 teeth on the bottom and is cutting both if his top teeth right now.
He loves the hammock and settles right down when we put him on it!

We’re putting an pool in!  The kids are so excited.  The tools and equipment over the past two months have provided lots of entertainment for them.

The garden is in and the cucumbers, beans and sunflowers are all growing! I even saw the basil popping up yesterday.   Please tell me you remember how hot it was last year!! Well, I remember. I was hugely preggers, sweating constantly and the garden barely produced anything.  This year is going much better!!

Garage sale season is in full force and a few of our best finds this year so far are this playpen …..
A vintage crib toy….
And this desk for the girls bunk room! Have you guys found any good deals out there?
